Ilinois To Texas

We started in Bolingbrook, Illinois buying our first house in this community. It is about 10 miles southwest of Chicago. It is growing community which grew and grew to a large one. We went briefly to Athens, Ohio for me to attend the graduate school of Chemical Engineering at Ohio University. After that stint we went back to Chicago. I worked for the Institute of Gas Technology, a non-profit company doing research on the gasification of coal. I worked in the computer data acquisition department gathering and analysing data from the large pilot plant. In 1981 we decided to seek opportunity elsewhere. I got a job offer in Houston, Texas.

Sugar Land, Texas To Reno, Nevada

We left Bolingbrook, Illinois and moved to Sugar Land, Texas. Sugar Land is southwest of Houston. It is a growing community. Our house is one of the very first house in the subdivision and when we left there are thousand of houses that sprouted in that place. I work for an engineering and computer company called SAE (Systems Application Engineering). I worked there for 12 years and then moved to Setpoint Inc. My job entails knowledge of engineering and computer programming. I stayed with Setpoint for 12 years. I was involved in the design, installation, teaching of our product which is in the area of Advanced Process Control. I then went to working as a consultant to ABB Inc. ABB has a big project to provide the power grid system to the state of New York. My job is to teach a group of some 25 engineers to put together their electrical engineering software into working condition for the power grid. The number of computers, peripherals, backups are great. Each operator console has six monitors and numerous computers. The advance power grid calculations is done every 5 minutes and one hour. The project took about two years and was successful. I then went to work for Fluor Inc. which is also near Sugar Land. As a Senior Principal Engineer I was involved in a upgrade of a refinery. At age 65 I retired from working. We start thinking about moving closer to Omar and Raymond. By this time, Omar moved to Pittsburg, Ca with his wife Lanie and the twins Zoe and Gabriel. We moved to Reno, Nv in 2012. We developed friendship from three other couples: Trini and Alice Cruz who are retired surgeon and gynecologist, Rudy and Meny Banares who are my classmate at Mapua and are chemical engineers too and Harvey and Evie McGee who are computer programmer and MD doctor. We go see each other at least once a week for bowling and then take turns hosting dinner and a small stake poker game. It is stil 3 1/2 hours drive to go to where Omar lives in Pittsburg, Ca. This drive goes thru the Sierra Nevada mountain and in the winter there would be snow on I-80 which prevents us from driving there. We decided to move closer.

Nevada To California

We found a 55+ year old community in Rio Vista. We bought the house and moved in August 2018. At this time Waldo is with us and we took him to Rio Vista. The Trilogy community is composed of 3000+ homes. There are so many activities and clubs in the senior community. Nicki joined the dog club and I dabble in poker, tennis and then bowling. It is a gated quiet place. The town of Rio Vista is very small and there is not much to do or buy there. Unfortunately the nearest place to go shopping or grocery or medical professional place is 20 miles away. These would be cities like Lodi to the East, Fairfield/Suison in the West, Sacramento to the North and Pittsburg/Antioch/Brentwood to the South. But we are adjusting to the new neighborhood. And we can visit Omar at a moment notice as Omar's house is only 25 minutes away. Raymond who lives in Concord comes to visit us in Rio Vista often.
